Solana launching first ever Web3 Phone 'Saga'

The Solana will be releasing the first Web3 technology mobile phone. Their phone will have a dApp store, Solana SDK, and hardware private key security measures.

Today, Anatoly Yakovenko, Co-founder of Solana announced the launch of an Android phone that will provide access to dApp mobile stores. Saga will include decentralized trading platforms and NFT marketplaces for users to download.

The dApp store will have no fees; the team’s goal is to eventually allow Solana’s community to participate in the governance of its content.

The Solana blockchain is one of the largest in the crypto world. It is famous for having a high level of throughput at 65,000 transactions per second and very low fees. However, it has been criticized for its high level of centralization and numerous outages.

The Saga phone features a 6.67 inch screen, 512 GB of storage, and 12GB of RAM. Users can pre-order the phone on the site for 100 USDC–while it’s not available before Q1 2023, it’s available now on the site.

Saga, the phone created by OSOM and is currently on the market as the OV1, has recently been repurposed to meet Solana demands.

The Saga is equipped with a OLED display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip as the processor. The Saga also comes with a 50 MP front camera that includes an ultra-wide 12 MP shooter.

The device will feature a Solana SDK which provides developers with the framework to develop and publish their own apps, as well as a hardware-encoded seed vault which stores the user’s private keys.

To help kickstart a new mobile ecosystem, the Solana foundation will provide $10 million to encourage growth in mobile dApps.

Markets were not impacted by the news, with Solana’s SOL token trading at around $36.5 at the time of writing, a 2% decline from the time of the announcement.
