India’s AI Potential: Building the Ultimate ChatGPT Tool
The CEO of OpenAI and designer of ChatGPT, Sam Altman, recently spent a few days in India. The main topic of his visit was artificial intelligence. The 38-year-old techie focused on the AI tool while speaking with the students of Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Delhi during a one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi on June 8, 2023. His trip to India coincides with the development of AI rules in the nation through the Digital India Bill, which has been under development since the previous year. The Indians were drawn to one statement made by the tech executive, though.
According to Sam Altman, even if Indians tried to create anything akin to ChatGPT, they would be “totally hopeless” at it. Sam Altman’s comments went viral on social media a day after the former made them, highlighting the fact that the country can occasionally not be an easy place for techies, especially if they are used to speaking their hearts without being responsible enough to know if they are right or wrong.

Altman was reportedly referring to a lack of infrastructure in India, but since OpenAI has created something akin to ChatGPT, it will always be one step ahead. As per Altman, it would be impossible to construct a program like ChatGPT for an Indian user because doing so would call for the creation of a particular kind of infrastructure. The fact that OpenAI has already developed ChatGPT, which is powered by a sizable LLM (large language model), highlights the fact that constructing a fundamental AI model for a business is not just difficult but also nearly impossible.

What is imperative to note is when Altman stated that they spent almost 8 months on GPT for making sure that it was safe enough to be released. They developed the technology, collaborated with organizations to determine what the appropriate limitations should be, and tested every one of them. Self-regulation is crucial, therefore. Altman also discussed the potential for AI to both create and replace new jobs. Altman commended India’s development of UPI and Aadhaar as well.
In response to these remarks, Tech Mahindra CEO CP Gurnani accepted Altman’s ‘challenge’ that Indian businesses couldn’t match the level of AI expertise possessed by their American competitors.
Despite Sam Altman’s assertions that India lacks expertise in the field of artificial intelligence, Rajan Anandan later tweeted: “Thank you, Sam Altman, for the straight response. It is useless, but you will try anyhow as you stated. We should never undervalue the Indian entrepreneur, as the country’s 5000-year history of entrepreneurship has demonstrated. We’re going to try.”

The largest IT company in India, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), has declared that it will be joining the artificial intelligence market at a time when significant developments are being made every day. To be utilized for corporate code generation, TCS is creating its own ChatGPT equivalent (tool).
Although the project is still in its very early stages, TCS hopes to make use of the extensive internal code, data, and resources that the largest software services company in the nation possesses. The answer will be created using internal algorithms that employ big language modeling features comparable to generative AI chatbots like ChatGPT but for corporate code production.
The idea is that Generative AI is ready to be used by all (customers). However, the necessity is to provide them with something free of any intellectual property infringement, and for the sector to fully utilize the technology regulations governing these solutions must first develop.

Samanyou Garg, a Delhi resident and the creator of WriteSonic launched ChatSonic, an alternative to ChatGPT, exactly one week after users could access OpenAI’s chatbot.
Speaking of various ChatGPT restrictions, Garg noted that the data is only available until 2021, that the data is sometimes factually incorrect, that there are no references made in the text, that the system isn’t yet multimodal because it can’t produce images, videos, or voice, etc. to address ChatGPT’s fundamental flaws.
