ToggleMicrosoft to Launch Bing with ChatGPT in March 2023
Microsoft is reportedly planning to release an updated version of its search engine, Bing, which will include artificial intelligence from OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot.
The new feature, set to launch by the end of March, aims to give Microsoft a competitive advantage over its main search rival, Google, and provide a return on the $1 billion investment the company made in OpenAI in 2019. However, it is currently unknown how Bing will integrate OpenAI’s software.
The partnership between Microsoft and OpenAI has garnered significant attention in the tech industry, particularly after news emerged in October 2022 that Microsoft was in talks to make a second, multi-billion dollar investment in the AI firm.
As part of the initial investment in 2019, Microsoft agreed to integrate certain elements of GPT into Bing, and the two companies have been working on integrating GPT into the search engine to improve the user experience. It is not yet clear whether the current version of GPT will be used in the service.
Release of GPT-3
OpenAI released GPT-3 in 2021, and later developed GPT-3.5 for the ChatGPT tool. The company has announced that it is working on an even more advanced version, GPT-4, but has not yet given a release date.
Microsoft is already utilizing OpenAI’s cloud services in tools that allow users to generate text, code, and imagery using simple instructions, and to train machine-learning models using internet data. Some of Microsoft’s enterprise customer apps have also been integrated with OpenAI’s technologies.
In addition, GPT-3 and Dall-E 2 are available to enterprise customers as part of Microsoft’s Azure server and compute-power rental service.
In June 2022, Microsoft launched Copilot, a subscription service that uses OpenAI’s tools to assist software engineers in automatically generating code.
The next phase of the partnership between Microsoft and OpenAI appears to be the integration of ChatGPT into Bing, which raises concerns about the potential for offensive or inaccurate content.
Google has also been hesitant to introduce a chatbot like ChatGPT, and it remains to be seen how Microsoft will address the issue of offensive content and mistakes, as the company has not yet commented on the matter.
It is worth noting that OpenAI plans to charge for ChatGPT in the future, similar to the fees it charges programmers who use GPT to create text-generating bots. This means that Bing may become one of the few free access points to GPT.
What is GPT-3?
GPT-3 (short for “Generative Pre-trained Transformer 3“) is a state-of-the-art language processing artificial intelligence (AI) developed by OpenAI. It is capable of generating human-like text, completing code, and performing many other language-based tasks.
It was released in 2021 and has since been updated to GPT-3.5, which powers the ChatGPT chatbot. An even more advanced version, GPT-4, is currently in development.
GPT-3 is available to enterprise customers as part of Microsoft’s Azure server and compute-power rental service. It can also be used by programmers to create text-generating bots, for which OpenAI charges fees.
About Open AI
