Tips and Tricks for Expanding Your Perspective

Expanding one's perspective

Why Expanding Your Perspective is Important

Stress can influence our perception and lead to the development of a negative bias when it lasts for a long time. As a result, we tend to concentrate more on the worst-case scenario or the negative angle of a situation. Without realising it, we tend to focus on all the things that go wrong rather than some of the amazing things that are taking place all around us. We may feel that everything is wrong as a result and lose sight of the bigger picture.

Having perspective enables us to see things from several angles and take into account the beliefs, experiences, and points of view of others. This improves our comprehension and empathetic capacity. It lessens conflict, bias, and judgement.

Let’s try implementing the following tips in our daily lives as a humble attempt.

  • Don’t be a Know-It-All

Your point of view is already established. That is unavoidable. And I bet you’re in love with it. But unless you’re receptive to fresh perspectives, you won’t be open to change. So, inquire and pay attention to others. Travel. Explore new surroundings, acquaintances, activities, and conversations.

People will always share their opinions with you if you ask them. They might be in the middle, or they might be either right or wrong. However, they will always present you with an alternative perspective to your own.

  • Read and Read More

We gain new perspectives and vistas by reading, listening to audiobooks, or watching podcasts. CEOs read a lot of books each year for a purpose, and Warren Buffett spends most of his day reading. Read more widely. Read new books, new periodicals, new blogs, and new websites. Not all reading is beneficial, beware. There is a lot of noise in the world that is designed to divert your attention and keep you from thinking clearly. Take care of what you allow yourself to think.

But search for something fresh each day rather than automatically listening to your go-to author or podcaster. It might provide you with new insight.

  • Seek From the Experiences of a Newer Crowd

Of course, look for people who share your objectives. It is simple to do this, and you require your support network.

But look for fresh or different folks and try to absorb what they have to say. What are they doing that might be beneficial to you?

Spend time with people who are successful in many walks of life to broaden your outlook. Are you trying to get healthier? Of course, surround oneself with people who share or strive toward similar health-related objectives. But also look for those who want to advance their jobs, businesses, relationships, etc. Success in one area of life frequently influences success in other ones. The ripple effect caused it.

  • Get Yourself a Coach/Mentor

It is necessary to change your behaviour since there are different ways of thinking, existing, and acting. You cannot change your actions and behaviour if you do not change your perspective. Nothing will alter, either.

To help you achieve the outcomes you desire, your coach should encourage you to be open to new perspectives, concepts, and methods of action.

Your coach ought to be accustomed to working with individuals from various backgrounds. They have gained a lot of knowledge from the prosperous individuals they have assisted in coaching, and they can impart that knowledge to you.

  • Be Curious, Ask More and Listen

Be inquisitive without passing judgement. Find out why your beliefs and those of others differ from one another. Be open-minded to listen to what people have learnt from their experiences and build upon it, don’t stay stuck to a rigid path of thinking.

  • Be Mindful

Reading, watching or looking at certain things might help us develop our worldview. Netflix or mindless TV can provide a little diversion at the end of the day. But it nearly never enables us to function at our best. The same is true for thoughtless web browsing.

Now what? Shake things up. Watch a couple of your favourite mentor’s YouTube videos. Participate in an online course for a while. See a documentary to gain greater knowledge of the world. Create your own content instead!

Conclusion

Henry David Thoreau said, “It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see.”  Every now and then, life throws us all some curveballs. However, like with most things in life, it is up to us what we decide to do with those curveballs. We can choose to view them as a test, an opportunity to learn and develop, or as an unavoidable strikeout that will force us to return to the dugout. Your outcome will ultimately depend on how you view things.
