Are Heroes Born or Made - What is Heroism

Everybody has their own hero, don’t you? We might have thought about our heroes and have had dreams of them, maybe it can vary. Many times we are the hero for others.

Now the questions that one might want answers to, can be the following – Who is a hero? How does someone become a hero? What is heroism? And most importantly, are heroes born or made?

Who is a hero?

We always see heroes flying with capes on their backs, fighting bad guys and that is how we always perceive them.

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said,

“A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is braver five minutes longer.”

Nobody is born a hero! You do the right thing at the right moment and you are the hero for someone.

Does everybody have the same heroes ?

Every individual here can have different opinions about whom we consider as a hero. For you it might be your father because he always gave you everything you wished for, and some other people have not had such present experiences with their father. For them maybe a movie star is a hero because he portrays traits that they like.

A hero has the potential to fight their issues and at the same time lend hand to others and pull them out of their miseries.

A person who thinks of others before themselves. Who puts others’ emotions before themselves, who pushes his/her potential beyond their limits to do good for others, who not only talks about doing good deeds but also stands up and shows with their actions when the situation arises, that is a true hero !

Heroism is not carried genetically, it’s visible in your actions. Your surroundings make you a hero, the people around you push you into a place where you get the urge to help them or anybody in need.

Implement your thoughts today !

They invest more of their time in grooming themselves rather than spending time daydreaming. You should know that everybody is born the same way, and they are conditioned to become who they are today, so just know that the strings to become either a hero or an ordinary person are completely in your hands. Pick up your chance and be kind to the people who deserve the kindness.

Not all heroes are the same, you don’t need money in your pocket to be someone’s hero. Just a small gesture or a move of courage can make you a hero for someone. Being kind and dealing with situations with patience is a very crucial gesture.

Sometimes you might even not notice that one polite gesture to a stranger leaves a big impact on them, for example you open the door of a shop when a person is carrying a load and doesn’t have empty hands. Such small actions are free of cost and portray your personality with utmost sincerity.

Become your ideal self

We have two types of self, the personal self and other being the ideal self. Today, we are at our personal self, it consists of our traits we carry in our present day to day life, the way we perceive ourselves, the way we define ourselves.

On the other hand, the Ideal self is a personality that we wish to become, a “perfect self”, the personality that has all the traits that you ever aspire for, the person you dream to become, be it career wise or behavioral characteristics. As an individual we should first take our time and figure out what our Ideal self is.

Once we do that, we should strive to achieve that person, and see where we are lacking, understand what’s stopping you from achieving your goals, your desirable personality. After understanding the barriers, try and eliminate them or minimize them as much as possible.

Be your own hero & if possible, be hero for others as well

This will help you be the real You! And that is how you become your own hero. Being your own hero makes you feel proud of yourself and further gives you confidence to build up for someone else, be someone else’s hero too!

If you are not happy with the way you carry yourself and portray your personal self, you won’t be satisfied with any situation. Work on yourself without any hesitation.

Setting minimal goals for your day to day life, moving one step forward everyday is crucial. Those initiatives need to be heavy tasks. Just make sure you never stop, anything that keeps you moving on the right path, follow that direction.

Zig Zigler once said

“You can get everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.”

Many times, we are capable of helping others in our own ways. We all are human, and need support at times, like our heroes do for us. We always have this opportunity to be a hero for others as well. We need to develop empathy for others, along with other traits.

Follow your heart, don’t just crave your ideal self rather become one! And in the journey motivate others to reach there too, push them towards their goal, help them clear the hurdles if they face any and be the hero, because one is never born a hero they always become one !
