BunnyGPT: ChatGPT Comes To Second Life, Inside A Giant, Humanoid Bunny

In recent weeks, the world-renowned artificial intelligence, ChatGPT, has been embodied in an avatar in the longest-running metaverse platform, Second Life.

BunnyGPT, a giant humanoid rabbit with a dancing juice box in its mouth, is a bot that manages the store of Moon Bunny Inc. on the island of Penny Lane. Created by Scribzy Daxter, BunnyGPT runs on Second Life’s Linden Script Language and is connected to ChatGPT via the AI’s API.

Initially created to help greet customers and run the retail store, BunnyGPT has proven to be quite a character.

According to Moon Brite, store co-owner, BunnyGPT had a tendency to sell items that were not for sale and had inappropriate conversations with customers. He even had a speech about breaking up with someone! BunnyGPT’s responses are generated via ChatGPT’s API, which outputs the average likely response to given keywords. This makes BunnyGPT’s responses canned and non-conversational, but still fun to chat with.

The Challenges of Integrating ChatGPT into Second Life

Integrating ChatGPT into Second Life is not without its challenges. One of the biggest challenges is bandwidth costs. However, the Moon team covers BunnyGPT’s bandwidth costs as it is a more scalable project. BunnyGPT uses a paid-for API subscription and costs roughly $0.01 per day. As more people know about him, the cost will increase. BunnyGPT is approximately $0.002 per 750 words.

Another challenge is the context of the virtual world chat. ChatGPT’s original context aims for extended responses, as opposed to the quick and casual back-and-forth of virtual world chat. BunnyGPT’s responses are limited to the keywords input by users, making it difficult for him to understand the nuances of the conversation.

Why a Dancing Tampon in BunnyGPT’s Mouth?

Many people have asked why BunnyGPT has a dancing tampon in his mouth. According to Moon Brite, the dancing tampon is actually a juice box. BunnyGPT is a bunny because the shop is called Moon Bunny, and BunnyGPT seemed to fit.

In the future, they may change BunnyGPT’s appearance to another kind of bunny.

Final Thoughts

BunnyGPT is an exciting project that brings ChatGPT into the virtual world of Second Life. Though BunnyGPT’s responses are not conversational, they are still fun to chat with.

As more people learn about BunnyGPT, it will be interesting to see how this project develops and what other ChatGPT avatars emerge in Second Life.
