Dubai has announced its first virtual mall, the Mall of the Metaverse, which will represent Majid Al Futtaim in Decentraland, one of the most advanced metaverse platforms. The mall will offer customers a unique shopping experience with an array of retail, entertainment and leisure offerings.
The announcement was made at the World Government Summit, and the mall is currently in the initial phase of development, with many more brands and features to come.
Avatars Shopping at the Mall
Customers’ avatars will find popular stores such as Carrefour, VOX Cinemas, THAT Concept Store, Ghawali, and Samsung Store inside the virtual mall. The Mall of the Metaverse will leverage behavioural science and data to deliver customers what they want and desire, highlighting the increased demand for digital experiences in the last few years.
Dubai’s Metaverse Strategy
The UAE has been making strides in the metaverse, with three healthcare groups foraying into the virtual world. The Dubai Mall showcased its Etisalat store in the metaverse last year. Dubai’s metaverse strategy aims to support 40,000 virtual jobs and add $4 billion to its economy in five years.
With the introduction of the Mall of the Metaverse, Dubai has once again set its sights on leading the way in digital innovation.
Leading Retail and Entertainment Destination
Khalifa bin Braik, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim Asset Management, believes that the Mall of the Metaverse will be a leading retail and entertainment destination for customers who crave digital experiences from their favourite brands. The mall has undergone multiple testing stages and will soon be open to visitors who seek an increased level of digital experience.
Fatima Zada, Director of Omnichannels and Digital, Majid Al Futtaim Shopping Malls, said, “Our swift consumer observations, followed by an action plan and a series of testing stages, has now led to a fully-fledged project that is a step ahead of online shopping – Mall of the Metaverse.” The mall will provide a new virtual shopping experience that will offer customers a unique way to shop and interact with their favourite brands.
