May 11th is the day that serves as an opportunity for the entire nation to recognize the great work that was a result of the brilliant minds of scientists and engineers who steered the country and the globe toward technological brilliance. On May 11th, 1998, Indian nuclear tests were conducted at the Pokhran test range of the Indian Army in Rajasthan.
After the successful tests, the Prime Minister at the time who was Atal Bihari Vajpayee declared India as a nuclear state, thus, making it the sixth country to be a part of the elite nuclear club. In the Pokhran tests of 1998, there were five nuclear tests comprising advanced weapon designs. The first three tests were conducted parallel to one another on May 11th and the other two tests took place on May 13th. The tests had respective code names by the titles Operation Shakti and the operation which is known as Pokhran II.

Theme Of The Year
The theme for this year, 2023, has been declared as ‘School to Start-ups: Igniting Young Minds to Innovate’. The various initiatives and celebrations planned for the 2023 National Technology Day will have a special emphasis on the Atal Innovation Mission. This is a government initiative that promotes “a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship across the length and breadth of our country”.
A country must get involved and remember such momentous celebrations because it reminds the people of the nation of how much has been achieved due to the tremendous contribution of the developments in technology that aided in witnessing skyrocketed growth.
Today, we live in an era of innovation and creation. India has significantly improved its standards of science, technology, and advancement in the last thirty-odd years thereby, improving India’s measure of standards on global platforms.

How is the Country Moving Ahead From Here?
The Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, on the significant day of National Technology Day 2023, intends to inaugurate a program on May 11th. The reason is that such a program will mark the 25th anniversary of National Technology Day which PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for a myriad of scientific and technologically driven projects worth more than Rs. 5800 crores.
The projects in different realms include (LIGO-India) which stands for Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory – India, the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre and the Platinum Jubilee Block of Tata Memorial Hospital.

India has proved to be amongst the most emerging scientific and technological economies in the world. The country has also seen exponential growth in the sphere of technology and its application areas under organizations such as ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) technology transfer that includes telecommunications, computer networks/systems (hardware and software), electronics, etc.
