Anthropic launched Claude Duet on October 21, 2026, and the pitch is simple: a Claude that messages you first. The catch for most of us reading from India is that you can’t get in yet.

ToggleWhat is Claude Duet?
Claude Duet is Anthropic’s proactive AI agent app, opened as a research preview on October 21, 2026. It connects to your apps and flags what needs your attention. It sends a morning brief and takes tasks you hand it. Access is by waitlist for Pro and Max subscribers in the US.
It runs on Claude Opus 5.5. Memory, skills and connected apps carry over from your existing Claude account, so there’s little to set up. Anthropic built it for professionals and small business owners with more on their plate than they can track. You talk to it in one running thread, a bit like texting a coworker.
What Claude Duet actually does
Every morning you get a short brief on the most important items across your connected apps. During the day it keeps watch and pings you only when something needs you.
You can also hand it work. Scheduling a meeting is the easy end. The heavy end includes dashboards, sales or financial forecasts, and prototype web apps. Bigger results come back as files you can review and edit, like a research brief or a slide deck, and a Tasks tab shows what’s in progress.
The detail that matters most is where it works. Duet runs on its own cloud-based computer, so it keeps going after you close the app. That machine has its own browser too. Your laptop being shut is no longer a reason for work to stall.
What Claude Duet asks permission for
It gets your approval before sending a message, making a payment, signing a document or deleting a file. Anthropic also says Duet never directly sees your passwords, and a new classifier guards against sharing sensitive information.
That’s a sensible line to draw. Whether it’s enough is a separate question, and one we’ve poked at before in our piece on AI agents doing holiday shopping and the security risk.
Who can use Claude Duet, and what does it cost?
Duet is a research preview for Pro and Max subscribers in the US, through a waitlist. Team and Enterprise plans aren’t included yet.
There’s no separate price. It’s included at no extra cost but counts toward your existing plan limits. The catch is that bigger jobs like a financial model or a presentation use more model turns, so they can burn through those limits faster. Rules around Claude are moving too, so it’s worth reading what changes in Anthropic’s usage policy update on November 12.
Can you use Claude Duet in India?
Not right now, as far as I can tell. The waitlist is limited to US subscribers, and none of the launch coverage I found gives a date for other countries. Anthropic may say more later. Until it does, assume there’s nothing for you to join.
India isn’t alone. Meta’s Muse launched to US adults only. OpenAI’s Dots is on Business Premium in every region where ChatGPT is offered. That’s a team plan, not a personal one.
What can go wrong
Anthropic is upfront here. It says Duet can still misjudge what’s urgent. It can also misread a thread or miss an update that lands between check-ins.
For an agent whose whole job is deciding what you should look at, that’s the weak spot that matters. A wrong call on urgency won’t throw an error. You just won’t hear about the thing. Read the morning brief as a first pass, not the final word.
Claude Duet vs OpenAI Dots vs Meta Muse
Quick verdict. Duet adds no charge on top of Pro or Max. Dots starts at a $100 plan. Muse is the only one of the three with a free basic version.
| Claude Duet | OpenAI Dots | Meta Muse | |
| Launched | Oct 21, 2026 | Sept 29, 2026 | Sept 8, 2026 |
| Who can get it | US Pro and Max, waitlist | ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium, rolling out gradually | US adults 18+ |
| Cost | No extra fee, counts toward plan limits | Pro starts at $100/month; not on Free, Go or Plus | Free basic tier, plus $20 and $100 plans, per a Meta spokesperson |
| Own cloud computer | Yes | Yes, with a browser | Yes, a dedicated cloud VM |
| Connected apps | 6,000+ connectors | 4,000+ apps | Not stated in coverage I found |
| Approval for risky actions | Send, pay, sign, delete | Read-only background research; account-affecting actions reviewable | Purchases need approval |
If you pay for Claude in the US, join the waitlist. It costs nothing extra. Outside the US, the realistic option today is Dots through a business plan, and that’s a different budget conversation.
Claude Duet FAQ
Is Claude Duet free?
There’s no separate fee. You need a Pro or Max plan, and Duet’s work counts toward your usage limits. Whether Anthropic sets a price after the preview ends is still an open question.
What model does Claude Duet use?
Claude Opus 5.5.
Does Claude Duet work when my phone is off?
Yes. It runs on its own cloud computer, so tasks continue while your devices are off.
Is it related to the other “Duet” AI tools?
No link that I found. A separate company’s product also called Duet exists, so searches can get muddled. Look for “Claude Duet” and “Anthropic” together.
